Los Angeles– In its 2014 Hall of Fame election the Internet Baseball Writers Association of America (IBWAA) selected Greg Maddux with 98.23% of the vote, Tom Glavine with 88.50% of the vote, Frank Thomas with 84.07%, and Craig Biggio with 78.76%. A 75% threshold is required for election.
Jeff Bagwell finished in fifth place with 69.03%, after managing 52.24% in 2013. Barry Bonds finished sixth with 57.52%, and Roger Clemens seventh with 56.64%, an improvement from their standing of 50.75% each last year.
There are 175 members in the IBWAA, of which 113 voted in the 2014 Hall of Fame election. Maddux was named on 111 ballots. The abstaining votes, with their explanations, were cast by Mike Petriello and Jesse Disbrow.
Mike Piazza’s name does not appear on the ballot because the IBWAA elected him in 2013, while the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) took the collar, enshrining no one. Barry Larkin, though elected by the BBWAA in 2012, remains on the IBWAA ballot because he has not managed the 75% threshold required for election.

The IBWAA was established July 4, 2009 to organize and promote the growing online baseball media, and to serve as a digital alternative to the BBWAA. Voting for full season awards takes place in September of each year, with selections being announced in November. The IBWAA also holds a Hall of Fame election in December of each year, with results being announced the following January.
In 2010, the IBWAA began voting in its own relief pitcher category, establishing the Rollie Fingers American League Relief Pitcher of the Year and the Hoyt Wilhelm National League Relief Pitcher of the Year Awards.
